In 2015, Nepal faced one of its most devastating natural disasters: a massive earthquake that killed about 9,000 people, left thousands more injured, and destroyed over 600,000 buildings in Kathmandu and surrounding areas. In the aftermath of that catastrophe, we responded swiftly, with long-term support through the installation of water purification systems. What followed was a story of sustainability—skilled teams were trained, communities were supported, and churches became central to the ongoing response. This lasting presence remains today, serving the people of Nepal in times of need.
A decade later, as Myanmar and Thailand face their own crisis after the recent 7.7 magnitude earthquake, we again are at the forefront of providing hope and transformation. And like Nepal our goal is not simply to meet an immediate need; it is to build lasting partnerships that continue to serve these communities, and most importantly, the churches within them, for decades to come.
In Thailand and Myanmar we are creating a network of trained teams to respond to future needs, we aim to establish a similar infrastructure. The teams trained by NLI are not just providing aid; they are building capacity within local communities and churches. These trained individuals will become part of the long-term solution, offering clean, safe water to those in need and continuing to share the life-changing message of the Gospel.
Accessing remote villages in Myanmar is a tremendous challenge, with many communities located in rugged, mountainous terrains and cut off by conflict and poor infrastructure. Despite these obstacles, dedicated individuals brave treacherous conditions, often carrying purification systems and essential supplies by foot or makeshift vehicles, to ensure that even the most isolated villages receive life-saving resources. One of the village leaders, a Buddhist monk who recently received one of our purification systems, said…
“The Buddhists and our government have not come to help us. But these sons of Jesus have brought us water, food, and hope.”
The aftermath of the Myanmar earthquake is still unfolding, but we are optimistic about the future. Phase one of our response reached thousands of people, providing them with safe water and essential supplies. As we move into phase two, our efforts will expand exponentially. We expect the impact to greatly increase, reaching over 50,000 people across Myanmar, with a continued focus on partnering with local churches and community leaders to ensure these efforts are sustainable.
In Nepal, our long-term partnerships have created a lasting presence, with local leaders and churches continuing the work of providing safe water and Living Water. In Myanmar, we’re doing the same. Our goal is to equip churches and local communities with the tools and training they need to respond to disasters and everyday challenges, creating an ongoing legacy of care and service for years to come.
Just as in Nepal, where we’re still providing water solutions, NLI’s commitment to Myanmar and Thailand is not a temporary effort. We are focused on establishing a presence that will endure and continue to make an impact for generations, working alongside churches and local organizations to bring hope and healing to the people of these nations.
As we continue to expand our reach and efforts in Myanmar and Thailand, we invite you to join us. Together, we can build a lasting legacy of hope and transformation. Will you partner with us today? Your support will help us train more teams, equip local churches, and provide life-saving resources to those in desperate need.

Natural disasters, like earthquakes or hurricanes may bring immense pain and suffering, yet they also open doors for us to respond to profound needs. While the devastation saddens us, we recognize God has uniquely positioned us for these moments, providing us with the tools and opportunities to bring hope and healing to those in desperate situations. Through His guidance, we are able to step in with not only the resources needed but also the message of His love and grace, showing that even in the darkest times, there is hope in Jesus.
