Safe Drinking Water Is Urgently Needed
In recent days, devastating floods have swept through eastern Bolivia, particularly in the Santa Cruz region, leaving families displaced, infrastructure destroyed, and entire communities cut off from basic necessities. The flooding, referred to locally as the El Torno Floods, has already claimed lives, left many still missing, and impacted thousands of families as rivers overflowed and access to safe drinking water disappeared almost overnight.
When floodwaters rise, one of the first and most dangerous consequences is the loss of safe water. Rivers that once sustained communities quickly become contaminated with debris, waste, and disease. For families already facing trauma and loss, the inability to access safe water compounds the crisis and places children, the elderly, and the vulnerable at immediate risk.
Our Response on the Ground
New Life International is responding by deploying water purification equipment through a trusted disaster-response partner. A team will depart on Christmas Eve for a one-week deployment to communities south of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, including Quebrada León, one of the areas hardest hit by flooding. New Life International is equipping the team with a water purification system designed to purify raw river water.
