New Life International has always been committed to reaching the world’s most vulnerable populations, especially in the aftermath of natural disasters. The recent 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28th, which devastated Myanmar and parts of Thailand, prompted us to act quickly. More than 3,600 lives were lost, over 5,000 people were injured, and hundreds remain missing. We knew that our mission could make a difference in this crisis.
Together, we are focused on helping the communities that remain without assistance, especially those in remote areas, some of which still haven’t received help nearly two weeks after the earthquake struck.
As part of our efforts, we are training local teams to use our innovative water purification system. This technology is lightweight, cost-effective, and portable—perfect for harsh conditions like those found in Myanmar and Thailand. Our goal is to ensure that these communities not only have access to safe water but are also equipped with the skills needed to provide long-term solutions.
Our efforts are concentrated on what we’re calling “phase one,” which includes providing essential training on water purification and wound care. We are collaborating with local mission groups, churches, and teams who can carry the supplies and training back to where it is most needed. We anticipate this phase one mission will have an impact on approximately 8,000 individuals desperate for safe water and other essential supplies.
In phase two of our response, we will continue installing safe water systems while expanding to many unreached areas, some of which have not received any support since the initial 7.7 magnitude earthquake. We are working towards securing a visa, which will allow greater access and, hopefully, enable a team to enter Myanmar. This will allow us to train more individuals and more teams, as well as partner with local organizations to provide much-needed essential supplies. Our hope is that phase two will provide upwards of 30,000 people with safe water, improved health, and through our partnerships food, emergency medical support, temporary shelter, and more.
Despite the many challenges, we are grateful for the partnerships we’ve been able to form and the impact we’re already seeing. However, there’s still much to be done. We ask that you join us in prayer for those affected by this disaster and consider supporting our ongoing work with a donation. Your support will help us continue to provide essential aid, bring life-saving resources, and offer hope to those who are desperately in need.
