As COVID-19 ravages the world, New Life International has continued to stay in touch with our partners around the globe, seeking ways to serve during this great time of need. Some of those opportunities are highlighted below.
Haiti
Tek4Kids’ work has primarily been focused on children and youth, so their water purifiers are located in elementary schools, high schools, and a technical school. Since school is not in session, they are using these water purification systems as distribution points where people can come for safe water where supplies are sparse. So far over 15,000 gallons of water have been distributed for drinking and hand washing – just the start!
Nepal
Contact has been made with families in and around Kathmandu who are in desperate need of safe water and food. Everything is closed – shops, borders, and roads. Many in Nepal and around the world live ‘hand-to-mouth’ meaning a family has hardly enough food or money to live on. When income is completely frozen with the economy, no money means no food which could lead to starvation. We are actively seeking ways to provide the needed funds to stifle this trend.
Democratic Republic of Congo
Like many other countries throughout the world, the DRC doesn’t have the medical infrastructure to provide proper care to those who are sick, so preventative measures like hand washing are crucial. It’s estimated that thousands of people have been able to take safe water and utilize hand washing facilities. We await word on the expansion of the program and how best to provide as an active partner with Mwangaza.
Ecuador
Once communication and travel resume, we will continue the coordination of dispersing safe water to difficult-to-reach tribal indigenous villages with critical needs in Ecuador’s Amazon Basin. On top of COVID-19’s impact, people were already suffering from illness directly related to poor drinking water, so this crucial work will carry on.
Our partners in Haiti, Nepal, the DRC, and Ecuador are a few among the many we work with internationally. We are receiving desperate appeals for help from several of our ministry partners around the world and we are trying to help meet some of these various needs.
